8 Bits: The Eight Remaining Free 3DS Games

People who purchased the Nintendo 3DS and connected to the E-Shop prior to the upcoming price drop will receive 20 free Virtual Console titles. 10 NES games in September and 10 GBA games later the same year. So far, 5 NES games and 7 GBA games are confirmed. These are, for NES, Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong Jr., Balloon Fight, Ice Climber and The Legend of Zelda. For GBA, Yoshi’s Island, Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Metroid Fusion, WarioWare, Inc, Mario vs. Donkey Kong, Kirby and the Amazing Mirror and Super Mario Bros. 3. But what about the other 8 games? Well, here are my picks.

First of all we need to lay down a few rules though. Only Nintendo published games are allowed, since they are the ones giving out the games. Also, the games are put in the order I want them the most, not a categorized order. Here we go.

The original Punch-Out!! is a great game, whether you're fighting Mr. Dream or Mike Tyson, dodging left and right and punching the incredibly sterotypical rivals in the face is satisfying and fun. It should also be able to gain some more fans for the series and might generate some more sales for the Wii game released a few years back. To be honest, the soundtrack in Punch-Out!! alone is enough reason for it to be part of the list, go Lil' Mac!

Hey Nintendo, know that Kid Icarus game you're delaying in Europe? Yeah, assuming you want some sales for that game I suggest you get the marketing ready. Give the gamers a copy of the original Kid Icarus (and release the GB sequel on the regular VC) to get them into the great franchise. Kid Icarus was a game released alongside Metroid as the new platformer-adventures from Nintendo and while Metroid has moved on to various games on modern consoles, for better or worse depending on who you ask, Kid Icarus has not gotten a lot of fame since the 90's, but with Kid Icarus: Uprising on the way, I think this game should be a given.

Golden Sun was awesome. It was part of the reason I got a Game Boy Advance to begin with, a great story with great characters and a fun battle system. The latest game in the franchise was Golden Sun: Dark Dawn for the Nintendo DS that launched last year, it was the third game so far. Assuming they want to keep it going I'd say it would be a good idea to introduce more gamers to the series. I wanted to put the sequel on as well since I love it more than the first one, but I felt that the first one was more important since it's the beginning of the storyline and the other two GBA titles are more important to me than both of the games. So Nintendo, get us Golden Sun!

I love Kirby. In fact, I'd say I love almost every Kirby game out there... Except the GBA games. Now there were two GBA Kirby titles, the remake of this game that I thought was terrible in comparison to the original and "The Amazing Mirror" which I don't remember much of, but it's part of the games we're getting. But the original Kirby Adventure for the NES was the game that introduced out pink friend to the power of stealing powers. The previous Kirby game, that is available on the 3DS VC, did not feature Kirby stealing powers, when he hit the NES shortly afterwards he got this power which changed the series forever. One of the finest NES games that really needs to be on the list.

Yeah, I have a feeling I might not be one that people agree with on this, but I think Zelda 2 is one of the better games in the franchise. Perhaps not in the Top 5 or anything, but I still love it. It's also the most unique one in the series due to the sidescroller-platformer elements and a RPG-ish level system. The game was hard as hell, but it was a whole lot of fun and is a game that every gamer out there should at least have given a chance at some point in time and what better time than now that Skyward Sword is on the way? Even the original Zelda title is on the list, so why not get the duo complete.

I love the Metroid series, it's one of my favourite Nintendo franchises. I hater Metroid Prime: Hunters and Metroid: Other M, but four out of five times I genuinely love the games. Zero Mission is one of those I love, not as much as Fusion, which we're getting, but still a whole lot. It's a remake of the original Metroid with extended story and exploration. It implemented almost every gameplay mechanic the series had experienced since the original game and made it so much fun. Give it a go, it might be more linear than some other Metroid games, but it's still really fun.

Okay. Hear me out. I know that Mother 3 only exist in Japanese unless you get the fan-translation. But I seriously believe Nintendo should take their chance here and give us Mother 3, because it's without doubt the game that I would consider the best GBA title out there. The storyline is tear-jerking and well written, the characters are sympathetic and realisticly portrayed. It's the game that Nintendo has been yelled at for not localizing for years now and with Operation Rainfall getting bigger and bigger, Nintendo need to realise that fans want more Japanese games and that this might be the perfect way to get started on making it up to the fans. C'mon Nintendo, oh, and while I'm begging...

Yeah, call me out for being a whiny fanboy if you want to but I would really like Nintendo to shapen up and release Mother 1 on the VC. After all, remember that the well-known Earthbound Zero rom is actually an officially translated game that Nintendo chose not to release due to the Super Nintendo getting too close to release, the only change in it is the added "zero" to the logo. This is actually my favourite console RPG of all time and if Nintendo were to release this, even as a pay-game, on the VC I might actually be so thankful to them that I might not ever ask them for anything else ever again. Although I would like a new F-Zero on the WiiU, but those sort of demands is for a completely different list.

Thanks for reading my thrown-together list of what I wish Nintendo gives us, I realise it's wrong to "demand" something when it's free videogames given to you because they're being nice, but one can dream right? Now watch me go depressed when none of these appear on the final list.
